The University of Malta Junior College caters for students coming from all parts of the Island and offers a 2 year course leading to University. The College currently hosts approx. 3000 young men and women aged 16 – 18 and is the primary post-secondary institution on the island. As the major institution in Malta which prepares students for tertiary education, a vast number of subjects are made available for students ranging from Languages, Business & IT, Sciences, Humanities are considered to be a "passport" to a university course. In addition, students have the opportunity to benefit from various extracurricular activities aiming to enhance their positive experience and general wellbeing as part of their College life.

The College is committed to providing a holistic education and thus includes Systems of Knowledge, a compulsory subject aiming to provide students with general knowledge (covering Art & culture, Democratic values & Citizenship, Science & Technology, Sustainable development and the Environment).
The Junior College also values intercultural education and has set up the EUROCENTRE as one of the facilities which encourage participation in multiple European and international projects, and further enhances the College's international dimension through a network of foreign partner schools with which it collaborates on a regular basis. The activities carried out by this department are focused on non-formal education and European projects in different fields, ranging from training of staff, providing opportunities to learn in different ways, which are not provided by the formal training, as well as encouraging the mobility and cultural development of both staff and students.  

Furthermore, the Junior College has a department for environmental science and a coordinator for science and environment activities. Types of activities run on a yearly basis are the environmental forum and other such projects, which fall within the aim of promoting sciences at a higher level.
